This is the initial installation menu. Please read all menus carefully, as many contain important information relevant to safe usage of this peer-to-peer software application.

Uncheck the "Subscribe to files from the Polar Skulk..." The reason for this, as the previous menu stated, is that Phex isn't able to control or monitor the content of the Gnutella network and helping to "spread free and legal files in Gnutella" may indeed result in copyright infringement:
Under "Sharing" (a submenu of Download/Sharing Settings) on the left-side taskbar, enter values of "0" (zero) for "Max parallel uploads" and "Max uploads per host." In addition, ensure that the following boxes are unchecked: "Allow browsing of directories" and "Share partial files:"
Next, under the Network menu (a sub-menu of General Settings), ensure that "Allow to become an Ultrapeer" box is unchecked. Next, enter a value of "0" (zero) for Connections to Ultrapeers:
Click on Preferences under the Phex menu:
Click on "Bandwidth," a submenu of "General Settings." Drag the slider under the "Maximum upload bandwidth" setting to "0 bytes/s" (zero bytes per second):
